Meanwhile in the other direction...

19 March 2009

As a newly reformed character I thought I would, in a wholly positive way, say how very nice it is that Jonathan Porritt has prematurely ditched the impartial mask he's worn as head of the Sustainable Development Commission for the past nine years.

Despite still officially working for the government, he has this week decided wholeheartedly to say 'vote Green' in this year's Euro elections.

In the clips and quotes I've seen he is defintely not making any bones about this, and the relief he appears to show at getting all party political again is very touching. Here's an extract from the GP press release:

"He said he has been unable to make clear his political allegiances while working as a government adviser but this time around he is prepared to pin his Green colours to the mast. Joking that he only had four months left at the Sustainable Development Commission so he was unlikely to be sacked, he gave a ringing endorsement to the Green Euro-candidates."

And below is a clip from the BBC coverage of Porritt helping to launch our candidates in SW region (this is clearly stolen and might not last too long on YouTube, so watch soon). Let's hope we see a lot more of him on the campaign trail in the months to come!

Very welcome indeed. It's the absence of an aviator haircut that makes this possible.

More seriously, I remember Porritt absolutely crushing Monbiot on nuclear on the day George had his road-to-Sellafield moment. It was embarrassing in just the way it used to be when Monbiot used to torment Bellamy.
