With trust in politics, and questions around ethics and corporate lobbying, more salient than ever, Green MP Siân Berry has once again published a log of her official meetings with campaigners, community groups, businesses and other lobbyists, and is reiterating her call for other MPs to follow suit.
Her latest quarterly release shows Siân held over 40 meetings to discuss policy with representatives of different local and national groups from 5 October 2025 to 4 January this year.
Currently, while substantial gifts and hospitality must be declared by all MPs, and Government ministers must record and release details of all official meetings, there is no requirement for details of meetings with lobbyists to be published by MPs. This is in contrast to much stronger requirements for transparency from MEPs.[1]
Siân Berry says:
“Trust in politics matters. Current events, and acute concerns about the risks of US tech firms holding huge contracts with the Government,[2] make it clearer than ever that all politicians must contribute to winning back trust from the public. They can start by following my lead and being transparent about their meetings with lobbyists and showing who else is influencing their decisions.”
